In this RSA Animate, renowned academic David Harvey asks if it is time to look beyond capitalism towards a new social order that would allow us to live within a system that really could be responsible, just, and humane?

Psychopaths… we usually only know them from Hollywood movies. We never expect them to enter our real life. But, the psychopath is closer than you think. Experts believe their number to be as high as one in a hundred. Most of them function incognito in high-powered professions…all the way to the very top.
The question everybody is asking about the person in this documentary may sound as follows: “Is he really a psychopath, or is he just faking it?” An interesting back and forth between the documentary filmers, the medical staff and the psychopath ensues.
Very interesting. Have a look at the video after the break.
Professor Philip Zimbardo conveys how our individual perspectives of time affect our work, health and well-being. Time influences who we are as a person, how we view relationships and how we act in the world.

I think nobody can really fathom how insanely huge the universe is.
From the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy
“Space,” it says, “is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space, listen…”
Now take a minute and look through these pictures.
Seems like the whole BP oil spill fiasco is one huge dejavu. In August 1979 one huge oil leak appeared in the gulf of mexico. They used the exact same methods engineers use to this day to stop the oil from leaking.
Of course they failed in the exact same way.
It’s quite gut-wrenching to see how nobody learned from this experience. Somebody may even draw the conclusion that they do this on purpose to raise the oil price.
I personally don’t use youtube for serious discussion on topics like peak oil, economics or politics.
Until I found one very interesting person called lorax2013.
Not only does he provide videos regularly, they are actually quite interesting. He uses his short 10~min clips to educate people by stating his opinion. No diagrams, no pictures, just talk.
I really liked his last video on “economic propaganda”. So check it out.
More interesting videos after the break.
Neuroscientists have proposed a simple explanation for the pleasure of grasping a new concept: The brain is getting its fix.
“While you’re trying to understand a difficult theorem, it’s not fun,” said Biederman, professor of neuroscience in the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
“But once you get it, you just feel fabulous.”
The brain’s craving for a fix motivates humans to maximize the rate at which they absorb knowledge, he said.
“I think we’re exquisitely tuned to this as if we’re junkies, second by second.”
This is what this site is all about. Addiction. The thirst for knowledge
Some of them are insanely hard to read but its worth it.
